For my class culture of America, I have to find signs of slavery as a quilt. Does anyone know of any?
For class, I must make a quilt 3 "by 3". It takes at least six panels that are used to tell Maroons message. I am having difficulty locating information, finding butterfly shape only (ie runaways in disguise), the monkey wrench of reason (they said it was time to gather the tools you need for your trip) and pattern of Route Model Path drunk drunk. (Remind them to travel in a zigzag as they traveled to confuse those who might be next.) Employer drunk way seems difficult for me because this is my first quilt. I have a sewing machine and know how it works. The sign is my only problem. Any ideas or events that are highly appreciated.
Geese fly: The signal to follow the direction of the wedge, as it migrated northward in spring. Most slaves escaped during the spring, on the road, the wedge can be used as a guide for finding water, food and resting places. The Quilt Maker had flexibility with this model as it could be used in any quilt. It could also be used as a compass in several models are used together. North Star: a signal to two messages – one to prepare for escape and the other to follow the North Star to freedom in Canada. North was the direction of traffic in the subway. This signal is often used in conjunction with the song, "Follow the Drinking Gourd," which contains a reference to the constellation Ursa Major. Two points Ursa Major led the North Star. Monkey Key: a signal to gather all the necessary tools for the journey of runaway slaves, which means that the tools physical and mental and spiritual. Sailboat: A sign that is a body of water was near trails or boats were available. Drunkard: a warning take a zigzag route to avoid the continuation of the slave catchers and their dogs are in the region. A slave was traveling south by example, not suspected evasion. The Dresden conference: It is possible that the Dresden plate could be a variant of the wagon wheel. Records indicate that the pattern of the Dresden plate quilt did not emerge until the 1920s. Wagon Wheel / Carpenter 's Wheel: a sign for the package items needed slaves to travel by car or could be used during the trip. This could also serve for the package necessary for survival, as if packing a wagon for a long journey, or to charge the car in preparation to escape. Some documents indicate this symbol means that a car with secret compartments where slaves could hide, would soon be embarking on the path to the freedom. Wagon Wheel Change: Crossroads: A symbol referring to Cleveland, Ohio, which was the main crossroads of many paths to freedom. In a less literal, the term "Crossing" also reached a turning point in his life, a choice has to be done and then continue. Bear Paw: follow a mountain road outside the hearing, then follow the road of a bear that carried food and water. Bow Tie (or hourglass): A symbol indicating the need to travel in disguise or changed clothing of slaves to a senior person. Shoofly: A symbol that identifies any person who can guide and help a person who helped slaves escape along the Metro rail and knew the codes. Tumbling blocks or boxes: a symbol indicating that it was time for slaves to pack up and go, is a leader driver was in the region. Broken Dishes: A symbol referring to a corresponding signal, broken crockery at some reference point in the future. Pants: A symbol indicating that the escape of slaves need to dress like a free person. Crown of Roses: A symbol indicates that someone died during the journey. It was a tradition African to leave wreaths on the graves of the dead. Log Cabin: a symbol in a quilt or could be from the field indicating that it was necessary to seek refuge or a person confidence to speak. According to some sources, she said a safe house along the Underground Railroad. Double Wedding Ring: This model did not exist before the war American Civil. However, the double chain structure is from Ireland and is believed to symbolize the chains of slavery. When a slave has been the quilt shows, this means bars or chains of slavery could be eliminated. When married, slaves do not change their wedding rings, which "jumped the broom".
