Quilting Sewing Serger
What is the difference between a "sewing machine" and "a serger?

Looking to buy a good machine for crafts home is fairly easy for a beginner (learning quickly) to use. Quilting, pillows, curtains, perhaps some clothing designs simple and / or repair clothing. But I really have no idea what the difference between a serger and a sewing machine. Also what brands would you recommend in the "less $ 400 'price range?

Look inside shoulder seam on his shirt. See how the seam is finished with the thread is on the cutting edge material? That is what makes overlock. A serger uses three or four spools of thread at a time, and is entitled to cut in front of the needle. As you feed the fabric, cut any excess before sewing. Do not sneeze while Serging – you may find a piece of cloth taken out because it deviated. A sewing machine usually uses a roll of top wire and a small coil (coil) below. A sewing machine does not cut the fabric, but merely affects all, so if you are a mistake, you can just pull the points and start again. Believe me, you will be doing a lot of tears. It goes with the territory. Sewing machines generally at least some different points, where a serger it is basically limited to one thing. Most sewing machines are used for sewing basic utility – a point of law to participate in two or more pieces of fabric together. This is what I use for most garments, quilts, accessories, and decor. Can also be used for decorate the fabric (and even embroidery patterns developed in high-end machines). Most have at least one meter Specialty few different things, such as eyelets, piping and zippers. If you are interested in harnessing research to quarter-inch foot, free motion (darning) foot and foot to foot. You not really need a serger for the kind of thing you tell it. Stick with a good base of sewing machines. I always recommend that people buy your sewing machine from a dealer in your area over which a discount store. It may cost a little more, but the benefits are worth it. If you go to a dealer can test the machines, ask questions (and actually get one), and even get training when you buy the machine. If you have a problem, you can return to service. Imagine someone asking Wal-Mart to show how the thread of the machine – Yes, it does not occur. A distributor can also help choosing the machine that best suits your needs. There is many brands that are good in the price range of $ 400 less. Time Janome, Bernina, ELFA, Husqvarna Viking, Pfaff, Juki and Brother. I have a Pfaff, Janome and a brother, and All machines are great with different intensities.
